The Energy Performance Certificate is a document of the Ministry of Environment and Energy, which determines how energy efficient buildings (or part of buildings) are on a scale of A-G and is issued by an energy inspector.
The most efficient buildings – which should have the lowest fuel bills – are in band A. The certificate uses the same scale to define the impact a building has on the environment. Better-rated buildings should have less impact through carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. The certificate includes recommendations on ways to improve the building’s energy efficiency to save money and help the environment.
The issue of the Energy Performance Certificate is required when handing down or renting a property, as well as when issuing the electronic building ID. It is valid for 10 years from the date of issue, provided there are no changes to the property. If a radical renovation or addition is made that affects its energy efficiency, the validity of the certificate expires at the time of completion of the renovation or addition and a new one is required.
Required documents for issuing Energy Efficiency Certificate:
- Property title deed
- Building permits (documents and blueprints)
- Legalization of illegal structures
- Property boundaries registry (cadastre)
- Technical Data sheets of heating /cooling systems
- Thermal insulation study (for buildings constructed after 1980)
- Owner personal data (tax number, address etc)
